Elsie Irene Castleman, 94, of Decatur, IL passed away at 8:18 A.M. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Heartland Nursing Home Decatur.
A service to celebrate Elsie’s life will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 31, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church, Decatur. Visitation will be Sunday, January 30, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Mrs. Castleman was born December 9, 1916 in New Madrid, MO, the daughter of Cyrus A. and Lula Jane (Holden) Chaney. She worked as a press operator in the quality control division of General Electric. She then went on to work as a real estate agent for Brinkotter and Associates. Elsie was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Late Comers Sunday School Class. She married Lewis J. Castleman on August 24, 1936. He preceded her in death April 12, 2002.
Surviving is her son: Frank Castleman and his wife Josefina of Decatur, IL; daughter: Genene Schultz and her husband James of Taylorville, IL; brother: Cyrus Elmer Chaney and his wife Juanita of Decatur, IL; sisters: Bessie Marie Wetherell of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, grandchildren: Lisa Gregory of Decatur, Stan Schultz and wife Mandy of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gyn Sgt. Brock Schultz, USMC and his wife Miraflor currently serving in Afghanistan and Lewis Castleman III of Decatur, IL; great-grandchildren: Sarah Schwab and her husband Clint of Brookston, IN, Matthew Gregory of Decatur, Andrew Gregory and Lindsay Berry of Taylorville, IL, Zachary Schultz of Columbus, IN, Abbie Schultz of Columbus, IN, and Tarynn Schultz of Cincinnati, Ohio; great great-grandson: Griffin Matthew Gregory of Taylorville, IL.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers: Earl, Randall and Randolph Chaney and her sister: Ella Mae Moulton.
